A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Trinity C.M.E. at 2253 Dr. Andrew J. Brown Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46205 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held just prior from 11-1 p.m.

Cornelia P. Harris, 86, passed away on April 5, 2015 with her sons by her side. Cornelia P. Harris was born on September 6, 1928 to the late Claude and Ethel Lee Young in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Cornelia received her bachelor’s degree from Butler University and went on to get her RN at Homer Phillips. Ultimately, she found a career at the U.S. Department of Treasury as an IRS administrator until her retirement.
Everyone that had the pleasure of meeting Cornelia knew that she was a private person that did not indulge in fanfare for herself. However, when it came to others, she would not hesitate to go above and beyond what was expected in any instance. Cornelia was an active member of her community and was largely involved with the ministries at her church. She was passionate about her work as Treasurer of the Dorcas Guild Missionary Circle, the church food pantry, and being involved with the WIDC Neighborhood Association. She was also a strong supporter of Happy Hollow Children’s Camp.
Whether Cornelia was taking a weekend trip, taking tennis lessons, knitting, quilting, or just sitting on the porch, the main joy of her life were her sons: Richard, James and Gregory. She was always very proud of Richard’s position in the U.S. Navy that allowed him to serve at The White House as a Ceremonial Honor Guard. James’ athletic accomplishments never failed to bring a smile to Cornelia’s face as well as the fact that he owned a trucking company. When it came to Gregory, she never missed an opportunity to show her pride about him becoming a Fire Captain, evidenced by all of the clippings that were found in her bureau drawer. Her life’s love was making sure her boys were loved and taken care of.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Trinity C.M.E. at 2253 Dr. Andrew J. Brown Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46205 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held just prior from 11-1 p.m.
